About the artist

The artist in his workshop Alan Zimberg
b. Brooklyn, N.Y. 1944

Alan's passion of collecting items from the world around him began as a young child. He couldn't resist gathering coins, stamps, rocks, shells, old ads and graphics, tickets, fossils, toys, and much more, and he felt a great need to save and protect them.

Fifteen years ago, Alan decided he wanted to display the wonderful objects he had collected that were stored away. He began aesthetically arranging these found objects in hand manipulated wooden boxes, each one symbolizing a memory or emotion in his life as well as bringing the past into the present.

Alan explains, "I get a kick out of having all of these objects and figuring out a combination that creates an esthetic statement about a memory or feeling that then becomes an artistic expression."
